Workplace flu vaccines for Whangarei and Northland Businesses

Can your workplace afford the flu? Book now to get protected.

Immunisation with a vaccine is one of the best ways to protect your whānau and employees against the risk of serious infectious diseases. High immunisation rates protect our whole community, including those who can’t be immunised themselves. We all need to work together to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.

Vaccinations are one of the most cost-effective measures an employer can make in terms of investment in their health of their staff.   It will directly hit the ‘bottom line’ through saving in sick days and other preventable illness.

Our StaffCare Nursing Staff are all trained as Independent Vaccinators and are authorised to administer vaccines through the Northland District Health Board Medical Officer of Health.

We offer vaccinations for your staff onsite and in our Whāngarei Clinic. We can also organise vouchers to redeem at other locations throughout Aotearoa.

Influenza:

People catch influenza by breathing in virus-containing droplets that have been talked, laughed, sneezed or coughed into the air by a person with the disease or, by touching their mouth, nose or eyes after touching something that the infected droplets have recently landed on. The virus survives outside the body for a short while.

Symptoms

Influenza illness can include any or all of the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Lack of energy, may be severe and last for two or more weeks
  • Dry cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Vomiting and diarrhoea – more common in children than in adults.

Influenza is not just a ‘bad cold’. Although some of the symptoms are the same, influenza is usually much more severe, often has a sudden onset and can have much more serious consequences.

The single best way to prevent getting the flu is to get a vaccination.  A new vaccination is formulated each year as the influenza virus changes rapidly over time and different strains become dominant.

About two weeks after vaccination, antibodies develop that protect against influenza virus infection throughout the Influenza season. Flu vaccines will not protect against flu-like illnesses caused by non-influenza viruses.

Vaccinating all of your staff means through ‘herd’ mentality, everyone is better off.  In addition, not getting the flu at the same time as some other illness dramatically improves your ability to recover.

Workplace Vaccinations:

  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Typhoid

Hepatitis: Prior to commencing a schedule for Hepatitis vaccinations, a blood test is required to check for immunity. The majority of our registered nurses are experienced at blood collection which can be done onsite at your premises or at our Whāngarei clinic. Alternatively, we can arrange blood collection at a local laboratory.

Vaccination is dependent on the employee’s immunity status. Once this is verified we can commence vaccinations. We will track and document the vaccinations for each employee through to completion of the schedule. Once the employee has completed all required vaccinations we will again collect a blood sample to verify that they have developed immunity.
